What is the Mystery Blanket about?
The Mystery Blanket is a unique project that is split across ten months. The design follows the same format as Debbie’s other blanket designs in “Blankets & Throws To Knit” and “More Blankets & Throws”. It is constructed from individually knitted squares that are assembled together to create a finished block. The mystery is that you won’t be told the theme of the project, so part of the fun is to discover this while you are knitting it up!
This blanket design will not be published or re-produced in other form, so you will be part of a very special one-off project.
How many months will the project run for?
The project will begin on January 15th 2013 and will run for ten months. ++New to 2013++ Patterns will be sent monthly by email. The first email will be sent on January 15th with subsequent emails sent on the first of the month (Feb to October). Yarn and beads will be sent in three parcels (post date January 15th/1st March/1st May)
How do I subscribe to the Mystery Blanket Club?

To apply, fill in the application form online and make your payment. When your place is confirmed, you’ll receive a membership number (membership cards arrive in February package) and then just sit back wait for your first package to arrive in January.
++New to 2013++ Payment (Plan A and Plan B) MUST be made in full by the application deadline of 31st December 2012.
What if I don’t have an email address?
If you do not have an email address, you can send an application form by post (see contact page).
++New to 2013++ If you would like your patterns to be sent to you as individual printed sheets every month, this can be arranged for you but at an additional cost of 15 pounds.
How can I pay for my Club membership?
There are two ways to pay for the Mystery Blanket; in three instalments (Plan A) or in a one-off payment (Plan B).
There is a discount if you choose Plan B.
This is how you can pay:
Please note that it is really helpful to me if you can pay by BACS. It is worth bearing in mind that if more UK subscribers use this method of payment, I will be able to keep costs down in future years.
BACS – payment is set up by you, through your bank, to deposit money in Debbie’s bank account (Lloyds Bank TSB/ account number: 01308128/ sort code: 30-97-55). It is very simple to do this and your payment will be made immediately.
Paypal – if you choose this payment, Debbie will send you a paypal request via email.
Personal Cheque – Cheques are made payable to Debbie Abrahams and sent to 26, Church Drive, Carrington, Nottingham, NG5 2BA
How will the parcels be sent to me?
++ new to 2013++Each parcel will be sent by Royal Mail. For UK customers, all parcels will be sent by Recorded delivery (signed for on receipt of package). All European and World customers will be sent parcels using Standard Airmail (not signed for).
A significant number of subscribers have asked for more security when sending parcels. For those of you who would like Special Delivery or International Signed For postal service on packages, this facility can be arranged at a one-off cost of 18 GB pounds (for all 3 packages).
What will be included in my materials parcel (3 in total)?
Your three materials parcels will include enough yarn and embellishments to knit up the whole blanket. The yarns used for the project will be from the Rowan Autumn/Winter collection and will include several double-knitting weight yarns including Rowan Tweed, Pure Wool DK and Felted Tweed.
This is how the project will be split up:
• Months 1-9: five squares each month
• Month 10: four squares and finishing instructions
You will be sent whole balls of yarn and packets of beads. If you have any left over, it is very important that you keep it safe because you will need it for other squares later on in the project. As a consequence, the quantities of yarn and beads in your parcels might differ, but in total you will have enough to complete the whole blanket.
Can you give me any clues as to what the theme is going to be? It is important that the theme of the blanket is kept a “mystery” until you guess the theme yourself. However, Debbie can tell you that it will involve a fair amount of fair isle knitting, lots of sparkly beads and a range of beautiful muted shades combined with some vibrant shots of colour.
But what if I am a novice knitter? Can I still join the Club and successfully complete the project?
There will be two options for the same blanket design and everyone will be sent the pattern instructions for both options. Most of the squares will be the same for both options, but when there is a choice it will be clearly stated. Option one will include textured stitches like cables and knit and purl stitch patterns, intarsia colour work, fairisle colour work, stripes and some beading. Option two will include all of the above, but any fairisle and intarsia squares will be replaced by either stripes, beaded or textured designs.
What if I get stuck and need some advice? In the first instalment you will be sent a “Tension & Techniques” sheet which gives lots of important information about the techniques that are used in the blanket. In addition to this Debbie also has a dedicated blog on her website for the Mystery Blanket which is updated monthly and includes extra tips and techniques that she feels will be helpful to you. Another place to get help is on the Ravelry forum. It is easy to become a member (if you have not already joined) and there is a dedicated thread for Debbie Abrahams Mystery Blanket through which you can “meet” other members and pick up lots of useful advice. You can also contact Debbie to ask a specific question by emailing her at info@debbieabrahams.com.
And do I receive any other benefits from being in the club?
As a member of the Mystery Blanket Club you will be entitled to a 10% discount on any of Debbie’s books, dvds and handknitting kits throughout the duration of the project.
And each month there will be a prize draw which all members will be entered into, with each winner receiving a gift from the range of kits, buttons, dvds, beads and books on Debbie’s website. Each winner will be notified shortly after the draw has taken place.
It is important to note some terms and conditions:
Information + Terms and Conditions: ·
+ The design of the complete project will remain a secret and will unfurl as you work through the piece. Please be aware that colours can look different on a PC screen or in a magazine than they do in ‘real life’. We cannot be held responsible if you decide that you do not like the design, colour or style of the piece.
+ It is your responsibility to ensure that you achieve the correct tension across your stitches when working through the piece. Failure to do so will affect the amount of yarn that you will use.
+ All efforts will be made to ensure that dye lots of the different colours are the same, but this cannot be guaranteed.
+ When posting to countries outside of the EU (inc. The Channel Islands) we are required to fill in a CN22 form which is attached to the front of the parcel. We cannot be held liable for any tax or duty that you may be asked to pay on the contents of your package should it be opened and investigated by customs officials.
+ The dedicated blog will be in place to guide you through the techniques used in the project. The project has been designed to help you learn some new techniques and discover a few neat tips, however we cannot be held responsible if you still struggle to grasp a technique and thus cannot guarantee the project as a learning resource. Whilst every effort will be made to ensure that there are no mistakes either in the patterns or in the written word on the dedicated blog, we cannot be held responsible for any errors that may result in your work as a result of a mistake of this kind. Any addendums will be published on the blog as soon as they are brought to our notice and we will endeavour to email you (using the email address you have supplied on application) as soon as possible.
+ Patterns will be written using UK terminology.
+ Please protect the design and the exclusivity of the club by not photocopying or passing the patterns to a third party.
+ The first payment that you make to us acts as a deposit and a guarantee of your place in the club. As such the deposit will not be returned if you decide to cancel your membership. If you decide to cancel membership before the start of the project in January and a replacement member for your space is found, then we will be happy to return your payment in full. For those who pay the one-off payment (Plan B), there is no refund should you withdraw from the project. However, membership can be transferred should you wish to “sell on” your place to another member. The “selling on” of your kit is your responsibility and will not be managed by Debbie.
+ If you withdraw from the club, you will not be entitled to discounts on Debbie Abrahams kits and you will be excluded from monthly prize draws.
